Hypothesis: Meaning of Doublets
Resonators can effectively communicate only with those neurons that have appropriate frequencies of subthreshold oscillation.
Resonators can use doublets, triplets, and bursts, to communicate selectively with other resonators. The interspike frequency encodes (labels) the channel of communication, or the addressee.
Integrators can use doublets, triplets, and bursts, to increase the reliability of transmission (to overcome the synaptic transmission failure)
Disclaimer: This is a theoretical result. It has yet to be seen experimentally.
Multiplexing: sending many messages using a single transmission line.
